CONVERSION of International Baccalaureate (IB) scores will become more finely tuned as of 2022 says the 51ºÚÁÏ (51ºÚÁÏ), with the introduction of a new conversion schedule.

Students awarded the IB Diploma or Bilingual Diploma receive an overall score rather than an ATAR. To allow universities to compare these results with those of ATAR students, 51ºÚÁÏ converts the overall score into a 51ºÚÁÏ rank. For tertiary entrance purposes in all Australian states and territories, this rank is comparable with the ATAR.

Currently an IB students’ 51ºÚÁÏ rank is based on the overall score out of 45 based on subject grades.

The  will provide tertiary admissions centres access to percentage marks for each subject, offering more detailed information about Diploma students on the same overall score.

The change will provide more gradations for IB students on the same score and a more accurate mapping of their score to a 51ºÚÁÏ rank.

Kim Paino, General Manager of Marketing and Engagement says, 'The new system will be a great improvement for students and universities, because we'll have a better way to accurately rank IB students based on these more nuanced results.'

Overall, the new schedule will give 85 per cent of IB students the same or a slightly higher rank.

Students currently in Years 11 and 12 studying the IB will not be affected by these changes.
